Utah Tourism Office Wraps Up Branding Listening Tour
Meeting Added in Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City – The Utah Office of Tourism will host several public meetings in southern Utah this week to get public input on a new brand to promote the state. Over the past couple of weeks, the statewide Branding Listening Tour has visited Vernal, Ogden, Logan, Salt Lake City, Provo, Park City, Richfield, Price, and Moab. On Thursday, September 22, 2005, Utah residents will have a chance to provide their input at the Heritage Center Festival Hall, Room 1, 105 N. 100 E., Cedar City. The meeting begins at 1 p.m. On Friday, the listening tour will be at the Dixie Center in St. George and at Frontier Movie Town in Kanab. The last meeting will be held in Salt Lake City next Monday.
“The meetings have been well attended by private industry and our tourism partners,” says Leigh von der Esch, managing director of the Office of Tourism, Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “We’re getting many creative ideas from our partners from throughout the state.”
Upcoming Meetings:
- Thurs., Sept. 22 Heritage Center Festival Hall, Room 1, 105 N. 100 E., Cedar City, 1 p.m.
- Friday, Sept. 23 Dixie Center, Museum Auditorium, St. George, 9 a.m.
- Friday, Sept. 23 Frontier Movie Town, 297 W. Center St., Kanab, 2 p.m.
- Monday, Sept. 26 Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce, Conference Room,
175 E. 400 S., Suite 600, Salt Lake City, 9:30 a.m.
“We want to make sure Utah residents have an opportunity to tell us what makes their state unique as we get ready to launch a branding and advertising campaign to increase the number of out-of-state tourists, lengthen tourist visits, and boost visitor spending,” says von der Esch. “Utah aspires to develop a branding platform that captures the Utah experience and essence, including the sound, feel and color of the state. Who knows this better than our own tourism partners?”
The Utah Legislature has allocated $14 million to be spent on tourism promotion over the next two years. The Utah Office of Tourism is working with W Communications in Salt Lake City to develop the branding strategy. The state plans to unveil its new branding strategy at the World Travel Market in London in November.
Residents can also submit their ideas online at http://travel.utah.gov through September 23. For questions on the branding tour, please contact the Utah Office of Tourism, 300 N. State St., Council Hall/Capitol Hill, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84114, (801) 538-1900.
