State Tourism Board Adopts Guidelines for Co-op Marketing Plan
Salt Lake City – The Utah Board of Tourism Development has adopted guidelines for the state’s Cooperative Marketing Plan designed to leverage Utah’s $10 million branding and advertising campaign. Under the program, $2 million has been set aside during the current fiscal year for non-profit entities to apply for the advertising funding.
“We worked very hard and spent a lot of time to get the guidelines done to meet our September 15th deadline for application forms to be available,” says Kim McClelland, chairman of the Board of Tourism Development. “The whole board felt great about the guidelines created for our tourism partners to apply for the co-op marketing monies.”
Tourism entities can apply for funding for print and electronic advertising, publications, trade shows, and other marketing projects.
Those eligible for the co-op program include cities, counties, non-profit destination marketing organizations (DMO’s), and similar public entities that have been established as a non-profit for a minimum of one year. The Utah Office of Tourism will match up to 50% of the cost of a marketing project up to $100,000 with a $250,000 funding cap per entity per funding cycle. All projects must utilize the state brand and have a call to action.
Also at the board meeting, Leigh von der Esch, managing director of the Utah Office of Tourism, announced the appointment of Tracie Cayford as deputy director of Operations and Fulfillment for the tourism office. Cayford, a former journalist, is currently the communications director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, which includes the Office of Tourism.
“We are delighted to have Tracie join the team with her tourism background and experience serving in the state’s economic development department,” said von der Esch.
