Cedar City Hosts Utah Tourism Conference

Salt Lake City – Registration is underway for the Second Annual Utah Tourism Conference that will be held in Cedar City next week.  The conference, sponsored by the Utah Tourism Industry Coalition and the Utah Office of Tourism, is scheduled for May 11-13, 2005, at the Sharwan Smith Conference Center on the Southern Utah University campus.

“We have an impressive list of speakers lined up for the conference who will share their expertise ranging from marketing to Utah’s air transportation industry to sports tourism, one of the fastest growing segments of the tourism industry,” said Leigh von der Esch, deputy director of the Utah Office of Tourism.  “There will also be opportunities for participants to explore tourism partnerships.”

A pre-conference working session will be held from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Wednesday to give tourism offices around the state time to review and share their marketing plans.

On Thursday, Manny Menendez, former executive director of Economic, Business and Tourism Development for the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii will address the opening general session of the conference beginning at 9:00 a.m.  His expertise in the development of tourism infrastructure continues to take him all over the world as a consultant in marketing, sports, land use planning, energy sustainability and transportation.  The luncheon speaker will be Mindy Fetterman, Money Section reporter for USA Today who will forecast travel spending trends.

Friday’s closing luncheon will feature remarks by Utah Governor Jon M. Huntsman, Jr. who signed legislation this week authorizing additional state funding for tourism promotion.

For conference information and registration, visit www.utahtourism.org or call  (435) 425-3997.  Individual registration is $125.  Two or more representatives from the same company can register for $75 per person.
