PACIFIC ISLANDER GANG CONFERENCE TO BE HELD SATURDAY

The Utah Office of Pacific Islanders Affairs will hold its first “Polynesian Gang Conference.”

The conference is set for Saturday, Jan. 29, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Hilton Hotel, 255 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City. Gov. Jon M. Huntsman,  Jr. will deliver opening remarks at 9:30 a.m.

The conference will bring together members of the Pacific Islander community in Utah— leaders, parents, and youth – to address the causes of and possible solutions to gang involvement by young Pacific Islanders. The Office of Pacific Islander Affairs has targeted some 500 people to attend the conference, or approximately 115 families, including parents and children, and several dozen law enforcement officials, community, and church leaders.

The Office of Pacific Islander Affairs is a part of the Utah Division of Housing and Community Development. The office informs the governor of issues that impact the Pacific Islander community. It monitors and reviews state agencies and their programs, including the evaluation of their responsiveness to the needs of Pacific Islanders.
