Two Crews will Harvest Their Way Across America’s Heartland with Multi-Media Opportunities to Ride Along
Wilmington, Del., May 15, 2009 - This summer, two custom-harvesting crews will spend seven weeks harvesting wheat from Texas to South Dakota as part of the “All Aboard 2009 Wheat Harvest” tour sponsored by DuPont Crop Protection and the High Plains Journal. The tour will track harvest progress through a daily blog on www.allaboardharvest.com, with articles in the High Plains Journal and on Twitter (hash tag #allaboard2009), giving people across the globe an opportunity to interact with this season’s U.S. wheat harvest in real time.
Two harvesting crews, Hoffman Harvesting, based in Bowdle, S.D., and Zeorian Harvesting, based in Manley, Neb., will begin harvesting in Texas in mid-May, depending on weather and crop conditions, and work their way to North Dakota and Montana. Harvesting stops along the way will include Olney, Texas; Kiowa, Pratt, Colby and Goodland, Kan.; Elk City, Okla.; Limon, Colo.; Gettysburg, Faulkton, Bowdle and Aberdeen, S.D.; LaMoure, Jamestown and Rocklake, N.D.; and Jordan, Mont. Site updates will be posted on the tour’s website.
Tour correspondents are Jada Bulgin and Jenna Zeorian, members of the Hoffman and Zeorian family harvesting businesses. They play an integral part in just about every element of the custom-harvesting operations, including driving equipment between fields, cooking, handling laundry and communications duties. This year, Jada and Jenna will be writing the tour blog, providing updates on wheat harvest progress and a personal view of life on the tour. The blog also will share crop news, weather reports, and wheat industry and crop production information.
“Custom harvesting is a unique, vital part of our wheat industry,” said Marty Wojcik, cereal herbicide portfolio manager -- DuPont Crop Protection. “We thought it would be interesting not only to follow the agricultural progress and report on important crop protection news, but also to meet the people who play a key role in harvesting wheat for the world.”
